GOING TO THE MUSEUMS?

 

La Segarra and l’Urgell have a very interesting offer of museums able to satisfy all tastes: for art lovers (you can admire from a Romanesque virgin to a contemporary and avant-garde art); the ethnology – discovering those objects which made life different a lot of  years ago-; the archaeology – from the possibility of seing a prehistoric painting to several evidences of Iberian and Roman cultures – to history – knowing where was the Generalitat of Catalunya born or just strolling away the Urgell Canal, a titanic engineering work which completely change for ever more all the region and the landscape. Museum of Cervera. Tel. 973 533 917. The “Museu comarcal de Cervera” offers multiple choises: from the “secret treasures” discover, a remarkable art and archaeology exposition recuperated by the historian Agustí Duran i Sanpere, to the exposition which recreates the birth of la Generalitat de Catalunya in 1390. We can also travel throuh time visiting the Duran house where we get immersed into the charming of a 19th century burgeois house, or in the Museu de Blat i la Pagesia, where is easy to imagine by means of the objects and the graphic docunents how was life in the country in La Segarra in the 19th and at the beginnig of the 20th. Museum Eduard Camps. Guissona. Tel. 973 551 414. Plaça Vell Pla. Saturdays 11-14 and 17-19. Sundays and holiday 11-14. You are offered the possibility on Saturdays and Sundays, and without booking, to visit the historic population centre of Guissona + archaeological park + museum at 11, at 13 archaeological park + museum. To arrenge the group visits you can phone or send an e-mail to patronat@guissona.net  Guissona is a compelled reference when we talk about the presence of the Roman civilization in the inner Catalonia, where Iesso (the ancient Guissona) was one of the most important cities. It is possible to visit some part of the remains in the archaeological Park and in the museum, where you can find some unique pieces like the beautiful funerery lament of the Servilla Praepusa tombstone or the emblematic bronze horseman. Museum of Ex-vots. Santuari de Sant Ramon.  While visiting the Sant Ramon de Portell sanctuary you have the chance of admire a very interesting collection of painted ex-votos, little pictures which were offered when the saint helped with a favour. Both people interested in the antropologic side of the religious art and the ones who want to see something different from this kind of art or more official and want to be in touch with one of the most essential manifestations of popular art. To visit the museum you must call the covent.

 

 

Museum of Tàrrega. Tel. 973 312 960. C. Major, 11. Open on Saturdays 12-14 and 18-21h. Holiday 12-14. July and August: only opened on Saturdays 18-21h. Arranged visits for grups every day. This museum is placed in the noble house of Cal Perelló. It is very interesting for the archaeological section which has the stock coming from the Iberian village of Molí d’Espígol in Tornabous. Moreover the temporary expositions which are periodically shown are really intersting – at present an exemple of Lluí Trepat painting is shown. This exemple is part of the particular collection of the artist Guillem Viladot from Agramunt. You can see it in: www.museutarrega.com

 

 

Joguets and Autòmats Museum. Verdú.  To 25 km of Sedó, in the district of Urgell, we find the population of Verdú, known by the tradition of black ceramic and by the wine, and for little time also for the fantastic and very advisable collection Mayoral of toys and robots. The Museum offers to the visitor "... a trip through the memories, the illusions and the collector's experiences. The memory is, because, the subtle thread driver of this group of objects, at the same time that is it of the museum." Guinovart Espace. Agramunt. Tel. 973 390 904. Pl. Mercat, 1. From Tuesdays to Fridays 17-20; Saturday from 12-14 and 17-20 and Sunday 12-14. Espai Guinovart is created by the popular painter and artist Josep Guinovart, who lived the Civil War in Agramunt in a familiar hunt and in touch with the nature. Inside this space three important ambits are shown: the impressive mural representing the four seasons, the hunt and the straw-yard. It is really astonishing and evocative.

Timetable: 10 to 13.30 and 16.30-19h (Tuesday to Saturday) Sundays ans holiday 10-14. Monday, 25th and 26th December and 1st and 6th January closed. The man and the water are in the suggestion which becomes the interpretation centre of the lands watered by Urgell Canals. The construction of teh canal was at that time one of the most important hydraulic power works in the world, able to turn a rough land, popularly known as “El Clot de l’infern” (the hell hollow) into a garden full of fruit trees and an oasis of corn watered fields. The museum nevertheless has the virtue of transfering us to the hardest origins of the canal and the troubles suffered by the builders.
