In
the region of la Segarra and the neighbourhood regions of Urgell and la
Noguera you can find a great variety of autochtonous products, mainly
foodstuff, all of a great quality. Apart from the foodstuff you will
also find a remarkable variety of articles which will certainly satisfy
your needs and caprices. |
|
Foodstuff: the bread, the meat, the fish... and the sweets. Wine, oil. Liqueurs... |
|
|
|
In
Sedó, in Ca l'Agullé the village shop, you have all the
necessary foodstuff, just as the meat. If you book it you can have daily bread from Guissona.
Moreover, no need to say that in Cervera, Guissona and Tàrrega you can
have shopping centres for all yor needs. But nothing is more charming
than the weekly markets. The most important one you will find it on
Sunday in Tàrrega in the neighbourhood region of Urgell; but we cannot
forget the markets in the same region: Thursday in Guissona anf Friday
in Cervera, this last one the most important one. Further from the
region, and at weekends, you cannot miss in l’Anoia the mythical
market of Calaf (there is a catalan saying which says: “this seems the
Calaf market!” This one takes place every Saturday. And finally the
market of Artesa de Segre, in la Noguera region every Sundays. But step
by step. Where will we buy all we need?

If
you want some bread baked in the firewood oven, in Torrefeta there is
one of the scanty ovens which strictly follows this system, although you
must phone and convince the baker (Mr P. Aloy) to let you enjoy it.
Other near baker’s are in Guissona and Cervera. A little bit further,
in Sanaüja you will find two baker’s and cake shop’s of quality,
pointing up Cal Peretó for its kilo croissant with or without
chocolate. You can find them in Ponts as well in the cake shop with the
same name; in Ponts Cal Benet has a good reputation for the quality of
its products. Moreover, the baker’s of Artesa de Segre have a deserved
reputation. Torrefeta: Forn

Probably
the best known and best product of these lands is the “torró” ( a
kind of nougat made of almomd, honey, etc.) of Agramunt. In this village
you will also find one of the most traditional chocolate specialities:
it is called stone chocolate. But talking about this product and some
other derived products from the purest cacao, we recomend you should
dare with the “Vall d’Or” chocolates which are elaborated by
Antonia Zaccarelli in the village of Cellers (Torà) and you will find
them available in the ancient Casa Magí of Torà supermarket. Finally
the cake shops of the region have their own specialities, like the
“nevats” in the cakeshop Agustí from Cervera, the “sabines” in
the cake shop Colom in Cervera as well and the “morenetes” in
Santaulària cakeshop in Guissona. The brand “L’infant d’Or”, in
the village of Gospí, offers you some very good elaborated products. Torrons

Concerning
the olive oil, you will find
it exquisite in the oil mill of Canós (Segarra) or in the oil mill of
Ribelles (Noguera). You will also find a very good oil in the oil mills of
Ponts and Artesa de Segre (both in La Noguera) whereas in Urgell
region you will find them excellent in the zone of Vall del Corb, in
Vallbona de les Monges and in Belianes. If you prefer to combine it with
an excursion, go to the region of Les Garrigues, known for the quality of
the oil with international fame. In any case wherever you go you won’t
regret.

La
Segarra is an austere land, it produces nevertheless some sublime
spirits which are the perfect contrast to the severity and the austerity
of its horizons; spirits elaborated in the ancient times by god mothers
– some families still have this privilege- and for the ones who are
not so lucky, they are carefully elaborated by “Licorera de Segarra”
which delivers its “ratafia” and “licor de camamilla” (spirit of
camomile” to a lot of shops and shopping centres in the region. A
similar spirits range – “vi boig”, hidromel- you can get them at
“L’infant d’Or” in Gospí, available in the same village or at
St Ramon supermarket. Finally you can go to Cal Bergadà, in Tàrrega,
to get them wholesale. This is an ancient place and you can get as many
litres as you want of your favourite spirits. Licorera
